Val passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer on January 8, 2018. Val was born on November 30, 1937, in Liverpool, England. She leaves behind Ralph, her loving husband of over 50 years, her two daughters Heather (Denny) and Robin (Scott) and two granddaughters. She will be missed immensely by friends and family.
Val began her journey to Canada in 1964, while working her way to Australia with her friend Ruth. Their first stop was Toronto, where she met Ralph. They married a year later and settled in Winnipeg, where she continued her career as an executive secretary. She spent summers on Lake of the Woods, where they built the family cottage and continued to do so, even after moving to Victoria in 1993. Val especially loved to dance, garden, travel, socialize with her friends and spend time with family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sherman and Dr. Gellar, the nurses from Island Health and Victoria Hospice for all the care they provided for Val. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Val to the BC Cancer Agency, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, BC, V8R 6V5.
A Celebration of Val’s Life will be held at Windsor Park Pavilion, 2451 Windsor Road, Victoria, BC on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at 2:00 pm.
