Terry was born in London, England and passed away peacefully in Nelson, British Columbia. He completed a medical degree at Oxford University in 1955. He married Lorna in 1953 and moved to Canada in 1956 where he was a Family Doctor in St Catharines, Ontario.
With a strong interest to further his studies in public health he attended the University of Toronto and became a professor of Epidemiology in the Faculty of Medicine. The family moved in 1980 to Vancouver where he became the Head of the Department of Health Care and Epidemiology at the University of British Columbia. After 1992, he formed his own consulting business. With a deep appreciation for statistics combined with his health profession, he wrote a book “Life Expectancy in Court…A Textbook for Doctors and Lawyers” for use as a reference guide in the law courts.
He loved to ski and camp and traveled all over the world with his work. This included being part of a team of specialists that investigated the Chernobyl nuclear accident. Together with other colleagues, he wrote over 100 publications that appeared in many medical journals related to health studies.
He is survived by his daughters, Kate (Brian) and Elaine and 4 grandchildren; Celeste, Cody, Erin and Holly. He was predeceased by his wife Lorna in 2015 and his son, Robert in 2010.
We wish to thank all those that cared for Terry at Mountain Lakes Senior’s Community including his friend Sherri whom he enjoyed outings with. A Celebration of Life will be held there on March 29 at 2:00pm.
