Alma Eileen Pirot 1921 2018

Obituary of Alma Pirot
Eileen went peacefully into our Lord’s loving arms on Saturday, August 4, 2018 in Regina Saskatchewan. Eileen had tremendously deep faith and a special devotion to Mary, our Blessed Mother. Eileen was born to Bridget and Daniel Lee on the 15th day of May, 1921 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where she spent her childhood along with her three siblings, Margaret, Anna, and Bernard. After high school, Eileen attended St. Paul’s School of Nursing in Saskatoon, where she received her degree. Eileen took great pride and responsibility in her work as a RN. She particularly enjoyed working alongside surgeons in the operating room as a scrub nurse. During her time as a nurse, Eileen met her future husband of 66 years, Sylvan, through her older sister, Margaret. In September of 1945, the two were married at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Saskatoon. Shortly after marrying, the young couple moved to Montreal for three years, before settling in Edmonton, Alberta, where they raised their four children: Dennis, Ann, Mary-Jean, and Bernie. Sylvan and Eileen remained in their family home for the next fifty years, before relocating to Kelowna, BC, and finally making her way back to Saskatchewan with Bernie’s family in July of 2012. The close-knit Pirot clan spent many carefree summers at Pigeon Lake, Alberta, winters skiing in Banff and Jasper, and several extended vacations to more exotic destinations like Mexico, Hawaii, and Cuba. Eileen loved to golf with her friends and husband, Sy. She was a member of the Mayfair Golf Club and would later go on to more serious golfing and relaxing while spending winters with Sylvan in the Rio Verde Golf Community in Arizona. Eileen was the President of the Catholic Women’s League at St. Anthony’s church in Edmonton, Alberta. During her tenure, she was instrumental in the implementation of one of the earliest “Meals on Wheels” programs in the country. She was always giving of herself to others and would always go out of her way to help anyone in need. Eileen was predeceased by her dear husband Sy, her sister Margaret, and brother Bernard. She is survived by her sister Anna; Eileen’s eldest son Dennis and wife Patty, granddaughters Stacey, Kim, Andrea, and Cassie; her daughter Ann and husband Andre, grandsons James and Geoff; her daughter Mary-Jean and granddaughter Kathleen; her son Bernie and his wife Corinne, grandchildren Jennifer, Jill, and Quinton, as well as 17 great-grandchildren! “I have such happy memories of Eileen! She was always so good to us younger cousins. Whenever I was in Edmonton visiting as teenagers, in summer holidays, we loved going over to visit Eileen in the little house on 70th Ave. She always made us welcome and was so interested in what we were doing. And we all wanted to be like her because she was so pretty!” “I have great memories of Eileen from the years that they lived in Belgravia. Your mom’s vibrant spirit was hard to forget. She was interested in everything and made me feel like I was the only person in the room, even when I was very young. Her sense of fashion and style were legendary, and my mom used to say that “Eileen always looks like a million bucks.” She was warm, playful and full of adventure. I know that my mom and dad loved travelling with Eileen and Sy and returned from trips with great stories about their travels. I have photos of a trip to Hawaii in the 1970’s with our two families, including Mary Jean and Bernie, Kelly and I and our parents. Eileen and Bill were the life of the party while Helen and Sy made sure no one got hurt!” A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Eileen Pirot will be held at Our Lady of Peace Parish, 425 Broad Street N., Regina, SK on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. James Owolagba will preside. There will be lunch and fellowship to follow in the hall and all are welcome! In place of flowers, donations may be made online to the Alzheimer Society at www.alzheimer.ca/en/sk.
Mary, give me your Heart so beautiful, so pure, so immaculate, your Heart so full of love and humility that I may be able to receive Jesus in the Bread of Life and love Him as you love Him and serve Him in the distressing guise of the poor.” Blessed Mother Teresa
