Alice Helga Sigurdson
February 9, 1937 – April 2, 2018
Peacefully, on Monday April 2, 2018, at the Arborg Personal Care Home, Alice passed away at the age of 81.
She leaves to mourn her children Roy and Candice, (Shawn and Shawna, Mark and Stephanie and Tyler and Stephanie); Sandra and Thor Dahlman, (Marni and Preston, Eric and Loreen); Wendy and Kevin Johannesson, (Jason and Kelly, Brian and Tabby and Cheryl); Loris and Dave Bertrand (Scott and Kelsie, Sarah and Dan); and Dennis and Charlene (Devin and Kyra); and 20 great grandchildren; her sisters Gudrun, Inga and Lilja. She was predeceased by her husband Marino, son Gary; her parents Bjarni and Bjorg Vigfusson, her in-laws Helgi and Lauga, 3 sisters, 3 brothers and 6 brothers-in-law.
Alice was born and raised in Riverton where she attended school always being at the top of her class. She married Marino in August of 1954 and moved to the farm 6 miles down the road in Hnausa. Those were busy years with a mixed farm, huge gardens, and a lot of cooking, baking, canning and raising six children (and there was always room for a few extra kids). She retired to Riverton in 1993, moving back down the same road to Riverton. She always welcomed visitors with a smile, coffee and baking. She continued to provide home cooked meals to her family whenever they visited her. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds with her bird book always on hand. She was an accomplished knitter, quilter and seamstress. She mastered many crafts and always enjoyed entertaining her grandchildren. Her family will treasure the items made for them. She was known in Riverton as a person to go to for mending and alterations. She was an active member of the Riverton Hnausa Lutheran Church, appreciated for her deckers for the Sunday lunch and enjoyed being part of the choir. She also volunteered for many years in the Adult Day Care Program at the Icelandic River Lodge.
In November of 2012 she suffered a debilitating stroke and became a resident of the PCH in 2013. At the PCH Mom enjoyed her visits from her family and friends, and especially appreciated her weekly visits from her sister Gunna. The family is grateful to the staff at the PCH for their care of Mom. We especially wish to recognize Alice’s niece, Linda, for always looking out for her.
In accordance with her wishes there will be no funeral. A private memorial will be held at a later date. The family gratefully declines flowers. If desired, donations may be made to the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church in her memory.
