Obituary for
Alfred Moore
My life and times in this old world.
Died August 20, 2018 age 105.
My thanks go to my Irish parents, Margaret Jane Moore (Miller) and Henry (Harry) Moore for my birth in Montreal on Good Friday, March 21, 1913. Thanks go to my beautiful wife Evelyn Flower Moore (Bradshaw), who died March 27, 2000. We celebrated more than 60 years of married life beginning in Montreal. We had great times at the cottage at Lac Marois, north of Montreal and after retirement moved to Kanata. I leave my two sons, Alfred Douglas Moore (Margaret Griffiths) and Clifford John Moore (Daphne Verbeke) as well as four grandsons, Peter, Christopher, David, and Robert. I also leave two great-granddaughters and four great-great-grandchildren. I am survived by my sisters, Stella Victoria Van Dusen (Irving) and Edith Winifred Conley (Burton). I join my late brother, Leonard Miller Moore (Jeanne Aurore Dit Lagace) and my late granddaughter, Donna Moore. My love, thanks and very best wishes are for Doris Olive, a great lady, partner and wonderful singing companion. We have had beautiful memories for the past 17 years, singing together with our chorus groups and sharing family.
My lifetime work began in 1927 at the age of 14, when I was hired by the T. Eaton Company department store in Montreal. Being a Boy Scout helped me secure employment. I spent my early years in various departments learning the business. I became a department manager and buyer who traveled across Canada, the USA and Europe. I represented the T. Eaton Company as a member of the Montreal Board of Trade Council from 1971 to 1973. After over fifty years with Eaton’s, I retired. At age 16 I joined the Victoria Rifles of Canada in 1929. Later, I was transferred to the Signal Corps R.C.C.S. and then served with the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War. We resided in the Town of Mount Royal for 45 years. During that time I joined the Montreal Central Lions Club in 1965.
When we moved to Kanata, I joined the Kanata Senior’s Centre and the Senior’s Heritage Club. In Kanata, I was a member of two chorus groups – the Unforgettable Hearts and the Sound of Music – who entertained at Seniors’ Residences in the western region of Ottawa. I leave many wonderful relatives and great friends.
Be happy, eat well, sing, laugh, walk, all for good health. We’ll all meet again. Until then, take good care. St. John 14 – I go to prepare a place for you. At my request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Those wishing may make donations to the charity of their choice. Thanks for the friendship and memories of our wonderful times together. Raise a glass and give a toast celebrating our lives in those great days that have gone by ever so quickly.
Order Flowers
