WALFORD, (Alfred) Harvie Dyke

Passed away peacefully at Crofton Manor in Vancouver. Cherished husband of Dorice, whom he met and married in Montreal. They then lived and worked in Europe for 3 years before moving back to Montreal. Harvie and Dorice recently celebrated 66 years of a wonderful marriage in February. Beloved father to Rob (Elizabeth), Joanne (Martin), Alan (Flo) and Mark. Grandfather to Matthew, Patrick, Melani, Lauren, Ashley, Emilie & Meagan. Great-grandfather to twins Layla & Lucas. Fondly remembered by cousins Peter, Dale, Stewart & Deirdre Walford, by his godson Stuart, and by Dorice’s nieces Peggy & Kathy and their families in Western Canada. Predeceased by his parents Major-General A. Ernest and Olive M. Dyke Walford, and his brother-in-law Alex Brown.
Harvie spent a distinguished executive career at Alcan, Bank of Montreal, and Canadair in Montreal. He held volunteer executive positions at the Financial Executives Institute of Canada, Montreal Board of Trade, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and the Boy Scouts of Canada. He received his Bachelor of Engineering (’49) at McGill University, BA & MA in Economics at Cambridge University, England, and his Certificate in International Business Management at CEI in Geneva. His love of life long learning led to his teaching Industrial Management & Business Communications for 5 years at McGill Graduate School of Business.
Harvie held many volunteer & teaching positions in Vancouver for the North Shore Lifeboat Society, Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, Canadian Power Squadron. He also taught courses for the Palm Beach Sail & Power Squadron in West Palm Beach. In the Laurentians he served the community with the St. Francis of the Birds Church, and the Lac Marois Union Church & Country Club. He enjoyed swimming, boating & navigation during his summers at Lac Marois, and downhill & cross-country skiing in St. Sauveur. One of his grandest times was being on the Cambridge University rowing team competing against Oxford. His proudest, and many joyous, moments were spent with family, especially all the memorable times and holidays spent in the country, and by the lake, teaching his children valuable life lessons and how to swim, boat, hike, ski & skate, among other enjoyable activities and hobbies.
Thank you to all the staff, nurses, and doctors at Crofton Manor & Care Centre, for their care and support of Harvie and Dorice, and our family.
