Porter, Alexander Thomas Scott (Gramps) 78 , Bedford, Nova Scotia
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. He passed away early Tuesday July 31 surrounded by his loving family. Anyone who knew him loved him for his tough outer shell and soft heart. He always had time for everyone in his family helping them every step of the way from late night vehicle problems, crew chief for his daughter, Jackie’s race car, head mechanic with his son on many American muscle cars, to household emergencies. He also enjoyed a cup of coffee and could chat for hours about his passion …..Cars…….Especially Camaros.
Born in Guysborough, Nova Scotia, He was the son of the late William and Margaret Porter of Dorts Cove, Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by his brother Courtney(Buddy), Sisters Doris (Dody), Edith (Sissy) and Gladys (Glady).
He moved to Bedford in 1958 from Guysborough, NS and worked until his retirement in the petroleum industry. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Vi, his son Kevin (Bonnie), Lower Sackville and his daughter Jackie, (Pat) ,Boutilier’s Point. His grandchildren Jillian (Evan), Halifax, Alex (Alyssa), Toronto and Olivia also of Boutilier’s Point, step grandchildren Jaclyn Richard and Ryan Richard, both of Lower Sackville, his step great grandchildren, Jase and Nyah Richard, Lower Sackville. Brother Jerome (Janet) and sister Betty Rafter (Ervan) both of Dort’s Cove, several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Fancy.
His passion other than his cars was solving problems for everyone in his family and will be deeply missed as some of his antics were a little left of center.
Cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place at a later date. A celebration of life will be held September 6th at the Bedford Legion from 6 to 10pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any charity helping animals.
