Aida Soldevilla Borja, 90, died peacefully at Eagle Ridge Hospital in Port Moody on June 27, 2018, surrounded by her family. Born in Iloilo City, Philippines, Aida was the child of Alfonso Soldevilla and Magdalena Sumagpao.
Aida lived a devoted life as an elementary teacher in home economics. She was a well-known for preparing delicious food for family and friends, and enjoyed crafts and sewing. [Malu: Please expand here on her life]
She came to Canada in 2003 as an immigrant and stayed with her daughter in Coquitlam on arrival. She enjoyed her new social life in Canada but still longed for her native country. She went back and forth between Vancouver and Manila for 10 years until mid-2013 when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Her symptoms got worse that she needed to stay in a long-term care residence in December 2016 where she stayed until her brain aneurysm raptured that put her in a coma for days. She passed away in the hospital so peacefully and painlessly on June 27,2018.
She was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Carlos Borja. She is survived by her children Maria (Virgil), Elsie (Roger) and Carlitos, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 5:30pm on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Cariboo Road Christian Fellowship, 7200 Cariboo Road, Burnaby, BC.
