Obituary for
Aganetha “Neta” Thiessen
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Neta Thiessen. Born on May 8, 1928 south of Altona, Manitoba in the Rudnerweide District, Mom was the second oldest of nine children of Jacob J. and Susanna (Gerbrandt) Bergen. She passed away on November 9, 2018 at 9:35 a.m. at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg.
She married our dad Frank Thiessen on July 11, 1948. Together they raised their six children, living in St. Vital for the majority of their almost 69 years of marriage.
Being a life-long learner, she was eager to pass her insights along to others. To the very end, Mom surrounded herself with books, ready to make notes regarding her observations. Wherever Mom went, you could find her with a pen in hand, making notes in the bulletin or little notebooks in her purse.
Her strong faith in her Lord was an inspiration and encouragement to others. She lived by example and showed love through her actions. Mom had her heart turned towards her home in Heaven, and we are confident that is where she is celebrating with Jesus.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Frank in May 2017, son-in-law Ron Sawatsky in 2014, three sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by her son Bernie (Elvira), daughters Susan Sawatsky, Lois Thiessen, Lil (George) Goertzen, Ginny (Wes) Thiessen, and Cyndi (Allen) Gifford, seven grandsons, three granddaughters, and three great-granddaughters.
We would like to thank the excellent staff at Seine River Retirement Residence for providing Mom with a wonderful place where she felt very much at home and well looked after. The staff on the Palliative Care Unit, 8th Floor of St. Boniface Hospital provided exceptional care to Mom during her last few weeks. Thank you so much for your gentle and kind ways with Mom.
“I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7
