Obituary Overview
Abram G. Hiebert
Abram G. Hiebert, passed away peacefully in his sleep, with family by his side, on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the age of 87.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Annie of 62 years, daughter Agnes, son Albert (granddaughters Deidra and Evana), son Ivan and wife Minna (granddaughter Cassandra and great-granddaughter Willow, and two step-grandsons Peter and Josh), son Barry and wife Leslie (granddaughter Nicole).
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Sarah Hiebert, two brothers and two sisters.
Abram was born on July 30, 1930 in Hochfeld, MB. He was one of 13 siblings. He was baptized in 1954 in Summerfeld Church in Osterwick, MB. Abram used to tease that he had an education of grade 15 because he did grade 5 three times. In his youth he worked on various farms in the Roland area and later in life moved to Winnipeg and worked on constructions crews until his early retirement in 1992.
Abram met and married his wife Annie in Roland in 1953 and on October 30, 1955 he married the love of his life in the Unrau house in Choritize, MB. They rented a small house in Roland where their sons Albert, Ivan and Barry were born. In 1965 the family moved to Winnipeg where they lived in the Charleswood area until 2013. Shortly after their move their one and only daughter Agnes was born and life was complete. After Abrams retirement, Abram and Annie enjoyed many family trips as well as trips on their own to Hawaii, Florida and Pennsylvania. One of his favorite pass times was simply driving through the countryside or puttering in the garage – he was always building or taking something apart.
Visiting with his grandchildren was one of grandpa Abram’s most enjoyable times. He used to say, “Boy, these little girls are loud” but we knew he loved nothing better. When his great granddaughter Willow came along, Abe beamed every time he saw her.
Abram was a very spiritual man. He and Annie never missed a Sunday service where they loved singing in the choir and worshipping and visiting with friends. When Abram got ill and lost his driver’s licence, he made sure he could rely on his children to take them to church. We know he is with the Lord our God and is now at peace and out of pain.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday May 9, 2018 with viewing one hour prior to the service, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, MB. With interment to follow in the Mennonite Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200 – 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Abram G Hiebert 2018.source
