Obituary of John Sears
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of John Francis Joseph (Jack) Sears. Two months shy of his 90th birthday, Jack died peacefully on December 22nd, 2018, after a short illness. This kind, gentle man was a much-loved father of nine, grandfather of seven and great-grandfather of six. He is survived by daughters Linda (Antigonish); Brenda (John van Rossum), Truro; Patrice (Truro); Elaine (Chad Norman), Truro; John (Lisa), Antigonish; Paul (Edwina), Truro; Robert (Antigonish); son-in-law Donnie MacDonald (Antigonish); wonderful friend Cheryl; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was pre-deceased by parents, Monica Downey and Jeremiah Sears, Wife Mary (Power); daughters Cathy, Marlene as well as seven brothers and sisters and their spouses, save one, John Tompkins, (Antigonish). Stay healthy Uncle Johnny-it’s all up to you! Jack worked many years in maintenance at St. FXU, often holding down two jobs to provide for his family. He loved his family, especially watching the grandchildren and then great-grandchildren grow up. He always had a passion for art, seeing beauty in nature and everyday life. He loved to fish, play golf, dance, country music-not country rock- and paint. In later years, as he slowed down a bit he hated to miss a bingo game at JJ Carroll House. This small man filled our hearts with so much love. It will nourish us for years to come. Many thanks to Dr’s Cudmore, Menard and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at St. Martha’s for their expert and compassionate care.Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday, December 28, in MacIsaac Funeral Home. Funeral Mass 11 am Saturday, Decermber 29 in St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish, Rev. Donald MacGillivray presiding. Burial in the parish cemetry at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of John
