Obituary of Bill Dunsmoore
WILLIAM ANDREW DUNSMOOR
1938 – 2018
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Andrew Dunsmoor on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 in his 80th year. Beloved husband of Susan Isabel (Thomson), married June 29, 1961 after being Earl Haig Collegiate sweethearts. Bill was very proud of his two sons and their families: Scott W.A. Dunsmoor and his wife, Derra (Davidson) and their children, Andrew and Marlene; James S. Dunsmoor “Jim,” his daughter Zoe and his family, Kimberley (Robbins) and her daughters, Chloe and Holly. Bill’s passing is felt deeply in the heart of his sister, Dorothy-Mae Paterson (husband Daniel “Danny” deceased) and their family, Stephen and wife Carmen, Diane and Ron Dyer; their son, William, his wife, Sarah and their daughter, Claire; as well as Dale Paterson living in Ireland. Bill has missed his sister Carolyn B. “Penny” (deceased) for many years and will now be missed by her husband Tom Liban and his wife, Arlene; and Penny’s son Charlie. Similarly, Bill is in the hearts of his brother-in-law, James “Jim” Thomson and his wife, Cynthia “Cindy” (White), and their children, Mark, and son, Luke; and Ryan and wife, Erin and their baby Aubrey. Predeceased by both of his parents William S. and Isabel (Smith) Dunsmoor and his younger sister Carolyn B. “Penny” (Liban).
Bill graduated from the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 1963. Bill’s degree served his career incredibly well. Bill and his father, Bill Sr., acquired ownership of All-Weld Company Limited in the early 1960’s after the passing of the 1920 founder, William Sharp. Bill’s work provided him with purpose and pride for over 65 years. He was one of the most well respected fabricating engineers in Ontario. His reputation for honesty, integrity, professionalism and, most of all, friendship was immediately felt by every employee, customer, supplier, and guest that came through the doors of All-Weld. His passion has always been in building – he loved fabricating. He particularly loved to share with family and friends his many contributions of public art and sculpture displayed both in Toronto and around the world. He was so proud that his sons Scott and Jim represent the third generation of Dunsmoor ownership.

When he was not at the office, he would be heading for the cottage on Gloucester Pool. A long history on the Thomson side brought Bill and Sue to Little Go Home Bay were they built their own place in 1969. Bill, Susan and the boys built the cottage, always a project, and almost always done with Bill’s own two hands. This was a place Bill and Susan always cherished and have developed multi-generations of friendships. McCowans, Duffs, Sinclairs, and Allens are as close to family as Bill could ever dream of.
The Donalda Club has been a second home for Bill and Sue for 51 years. The camaraderie and togetherness they enjoyed with members and staff was truly cherished.
Most of all, Bill loved his friendships with everyone. He loved meeting people and knowing people. He cared, they mattered, it was important to him. You were all important to him. Bill loved you all.
As per Bill’s wishes, a gathering of family and friends in celebration will be held at the Donalda Club on Saturday, January 12th. Details of the timing will be posted on the Humphrey Funeral Home website, www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com when they are finalized. In Bill’s memory please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
