Myrtle was born August 1920 (98 years ago) in a small town in Saskatchewan, the 3rd oldest child of 4, to two dearest parents, where she grew up on a farm with. Myrtle was daddy right-hand helper whatever needed to be done on the farm without the farm machinery we have today. Myrtle also, helped her mother with the house chores and looked after younger sibling too. At a young age Myrtle left the farm and moved to Saskatoon, where she lived in the rooming house and met a lot of friends and worked several jobs. In Saskatoon, Myrtle found the loved of her life and married Nicholas Holowinko on December 16, 1941. Her young husband was an army guy, and unfortunately, he had to go to War World II, to fight for our freedom from Sept 41-46. Myrtle was on her own, dad must have had to go Brandon, Man. for training because mom lived there for a while and moved back to Saskatoon. After the war they bought a farm near Shell Lake, where they started a family. They had bad luck farming, so Nicholas rejoined the Armed Forces, and moved to Saskatoon (Nicholas then went to Korean War). After the war, they had two more children. Moved several times, Regina, Edmonton, Ontario and settle in Edmonton, when dad retired from the armed forces and lived there for her remaining years. Mom had many, many friends over the years, even in the Roslyn Place senior lodge and Citadel Care Centre. The staff loved her and she will be definitely missed by all. Thank you to the staff at the Citadel who cared for our mother!! Mom had a very hard, eventful and long life. Mom loved life and had a positive attitude too, she was determine to live to be 102. Unfortunately, her body gave out at 98 and god took her to heaven, to be with her beautiful daughter and loving husband.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Myrtle’s name may be made to the Organization.
