Mary Dypchey 2018

OBITUARY
Mary Dypchey
July 23, 1932 – December 3, 2018
Born on July 23, 1932 in Flat Lake, Alberta at her grandparents family farm to Michal and Sofia Berezowski. She passed away peacefully in the early morning of December 2, 2018.
Mary’s grandparents arrived to Canada, settling in Alberta, from Western Ukraine in the middle 1920’s. Mary met Bill while out with mutual friends at the beach, evolving to Bill walking her home every day after work. They married on September 20, 1952 at Frances Road Hall in Richmond. Mary returned to work after the birth of her first child, finding a job in insurance. She took a few years off
when the family moved to Edmonton to spend time with her parents and to welcome their second child. Shortly after, the family of four moved back to Richmond and Mary returned to insurance work, where she stayed there until retirement. While working full time in insurance, she spent her weekends working with youth bowling starting at Skyway Lanes in Richmond. Eventually Bill and Mary purchased their own bowling alley at Shellmont Lanes, which became a second job running the bowling alley while maintaining her job at the insurance company. They were also very active in the Ukrainian church, choir and dancing, while living in their first home in Richmond.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren whether it be watching them play sports or to go on their annual shopping trip. She loved having the family over to spend the afternoon in the pool; the pool was the centre of family gatherings.
After retirement, Mary and Bill moved to South Surrey where they became very active members within their condo complex. Finally becoming a council member, Mary served for many years up until her passing. She highly enjoyed being able to meet every resident as she volunteered her time to supervise move-ins, balancing the books and helped out in any way she believed would better the complex.
Mary was predeceased by husband of 54 years Bill Dypchey (2006) and brother Al Berezowski (2010). Survived by brothers Wally and Joe, sisters Rose, Jean and Juanita; daughter Pat (Wilf), son Roman (Sherri); grandchildren Karoline (Jeff), Scott (Jen), Stephen (Karla), Jessica (Andrew), Natasha (Josh), Cassandra (Travis); great-grandchildren Chelsea (Will), Josh (Beth), Lilianna, Logan, Isaac, Naomi, Alexis, George, Addison; great-great grandchildren Reece, Eddie and Robbie; and many more relatives and friends.
An Open House celebration will be held on Saturday, December 8th at the Clubhouse at Southwynd Condo, 1705 Martin Drive, Surrey, BC from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. All are welcome to drop-in for an informal tea and treats. Due to limited parking please park across the street in the Semiahmoo Mall parking lot.
