Obituary Overview
Forever In Our Hearts
We are devastated and heartbroken to announce the death of our beloved David Straub on Monday, November 26, 2018 in Regina, SK at the age of 40.
Born August 29, 1978 in Regina, David grew up on the Straub family farm at Pense, SK and as the fourth generation on the farm, he had a deep connection to his prairie heritage.
He attended Pense Elementary School and Dr. Martin Leboldus High School and began working in the restaurant industry at Danbry’s. David went to culinary school at Camosun College in Victoria and SIAST in Moose Jaw to obtain his Red Seal certification.
He was a brilliant, ambitious, kind, and patient man with many gifts. A natural athlete, he excelled at many sports including hockey, basketball, volleyball and football. While always a team player, David was also an inspiring leader and an innovative entrepreneur and he used these abilities to serve and inspire those around him.
Over the past two decades, he built a remarkable career as a Chef and restaurant owner. He had been notably ‘feeding life in people’ in Regina’s downtown since 2011 when he opened Flip Eatery & Drink, bringing people together with his unique creative offerings and warm approach.
David’s passion for amazing food was consistently evident on his groundbreaking and ever-changing menus. With an unparalleled work ethic, he not only made a lasting impact on the culinary community but mentored many young chefs and encouraged others to pursue their goals and dreams.
In 2018, he made a shift back to his farming heritage and was working with his dad in Pense.
David was predeceased by his sister Jeannie in December 2017; and grandparents Michael and Regina Uzelman and Merle and Ambrose Straub.
He is survived by his parents Lorne and Carol Straub; sisters Lauren Straub and Elana (Sean) Duquette; brother-in-law Sean Flotre; wife Jackie Straub; in-laws Mark and Alison van Schie; brother-in-law Brad van Schie; and many adoring aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A FUNERAL MASS will be held at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina, SK on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Steve Bill Celebrant.
As David supported others and what was important to them, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery (306) 789-8850.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of David Straub 2018..
