After a long, fulfilling and vibrant life, peacefully passed away at the age of 97, lovingly surrounded by his family.
Predeceased by his devoted wife of 43 years, Assunta Fedele and later in life, Assunta Palladini.
Loving father of Richard and Rita (Frank), cherished and adored grandfather of Ryan, Jessica (Julian), and Alexandra.
Survived by his brother Franco (Rosa) as well as sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and friends both in Canada and Italy.
Born in his beloved Prossedi, Italy he immigrated to Canada in the late 1940’s. He worked for Canadian National Railway for more than 30 years, and was a union and labour leader for most of those years.
He briefly served as President of Societa Mutuo Soccorso Prossedana, an organization established in Montreal on February 22nd, 1929 that his father, the late Luigi Vani was one of the founding members. He was also involved with the Casa D’Italia.
He played the clarinet, and his immense love of opera, classical music and literature was known to all.

on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m. at the Résurrection Chapel in the Notre Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery, 4601 Côte-des-Neiges Road, H3V 1E7.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Island Palliative Care Residence.
Special thanks to Dr. J. Wong, Heather and the “Angels on Earth”, dedicated nurses and all staff at this wonderful facility who helped care for our father and allow his final days to be filled with tender care, utmost compassion and dignity. We will be forever grateful.
