Obituary of Marguerite Ellwood
Ellwood, (Warr), Mary Marguerite – February 6, 1922 to November 9, 2018
Marguerite passed peacefully at sunset with family by her side, in the same manner that she lived, with grace. Predeceased by her loving husband, John “Keith” Ellwood; her brother, Owen Warr and sister-in-law, Gwen Warr (MacDonald); her sister, Gwen Kavanagh (Warr) and her son-in-law, Donald Anderson.
Survived by her brother, Ivan Warr; her daughters, Lesley Anderson, Kathryn Gordon (Russ), Alexandra White (Robert); nephew, Colin Falconer; grandchildren, Chloe Anderson, Desiree Gordon (Stefan), Sydney Gordon, Lily Dicey (Shawn), Duff White; also survived by three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
“Nona” as she liked to be called by her grandchildren, “Marbie” as she was called by so many was an amazing wife, mom, daughter, friend and nurse. She was born in Cape Breton, attended Mount Allison University and did her nurse training at Saint John General Hospital and studied in New York City specializing in Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat. Marguerite spent her adulthood as a mother like no other and a nurse. Marguerite and Keith retired to West Dublin, Nova Scotia in 1981. In addition to her many travels, she was an avid reader and became a prolific rug hooker. Her home was always open to her loving friends and family, to come and hook rugs, play bridge or Scrabble, and to have a cup of tea. She will always be remembered as wise, graceful, positive and charming, with a bit of a twinkle in her eye. To know her was to love her. She brought joy into the lives of all that knew her. She leaves us rich in memories. Marguerite, thank you for always being there.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 23, 1-3 pm, at Marguerite’s home, 4750 Hwy 331, West Dublin. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sunshine Room, Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, www.cdha.nshealth.ca/sunshine-room/services, Canadian Red Cross, www.redcross.ca/in-your-community/nova-scotia or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Marguerite
