“Our Hero”
With family at his bedside, Leo Alan Grouette passed away at Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach, MB on Friday, November 09, 2018.
Leo was born in Rainy River, ON on July 15, 1957. He grew up in Fort Frances, ON and as a young man he moved to Winnipeg, MB. Leo was a truck driver for many years. He traveled all over Canada and United States often taking his son Kyle and grandson Justin with him. Leo was the youngest of nine children.
He is survived by his daughters Stacey (Kevin) and Charlene; his son Kyle; his grandchildren Justin, Hannah, Shayla and Elijah; his ex-wife/good friend Karen Grouette and from his first marriage a son Justin and grandson Oliver; his sisters Betty McTavish, Leona Morish, Beatrice Friend, Angela (Duane) Morneau, and Patsy (Doug) McEvoy; his sister-in-law Pamela Grouette and many nieces & nephews.
Leo was a very special man and he had a very close relationship with his son Kyle. They often referred to one another as brosef and were inseparable. Leo had an infectious laugh that could put a smile on anyone’s face. He enjoyed teasing all of his sisters and he made friends easily. Leo enjoyed all sports. He played hockey & football and he never would miss an opportunity at cheering on his favorite hockey team the Winnipeg Jets. Leo was a very attentive grandfather. He was so proud of his grandchildren and boasted of their achievements: Justin’s fishing, Hannah’s dancing abilities and he would laugh at Shayla’s little attitude. He was the only one that could get her laughing when she would be in her moods. He didn’t have much time with little Elijah, but the time he did have with him will be memorable.
Leo was predeceased by his beautiful loving mother Elizabeth Carriere Grouette, father Edward Grouette, sister Doris Brown, brothers Edward and Roger Grouette.
A celebration of Leo’s life will take place on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 1:30 p.m., at the Henderson Highway Legion Branch 215, 215 Maxwell King Drive, Winnipeg Manitoba.
Donations in memory of Leo can be made at Winnipeg Harvest and/or Siloam mission.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Leo Alan Grouette July 15 1957 November 09 2018..
