Dorothy Eileen Thew
Dorothy was born to Emily and William (Bill) Pelkey on December 21, 1928 in Eriksdale, Manitoba. Dorothy came into the world weighing 3 pounds and spending the first month in the hospital, then going home to spend the next little while of her life wrapped in cotton batten in a shoe box. Later the Pelkey family moved to Battleford, Saskatchewan. Then Winterburn, Alberta and finally homesteaded in McKay, Alberta. Dorothy was the eldest of 8 children. She was followed by Bernice (Bea) Johnman, Shirley Nord, Kelly Pelkey, Patricia (Patt) Tattersol (Don), Faye Parker (Charles), Joan Niles (Nelson), Albert (Buddy) Pelkey (Gert). Dorothy was predeceased by her father, William (Bill) Pelkey December 16, 1980, her mother, Emily Pelkey April 16, 1989 and her spouse James Thew April 21, 2005, her sister Beatrice (Bea) Johnman November 17, 1992, her brother Albert (Buddy) Pelkey 1983 and her son, Brian Thew September 28, 1986. Dorothy and James had 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls, James Douglas Thew (Daria), Betty Diane Thew, Kenneth Wayne Thew (Shawnee), Brian Arthur Thew, Darlene Rose Geddes (Ivan), Sherry Anne Morton (Patrick), Randal Wesley Thew (Heather), and Pamela Gaye Lilly. Dorothy and James were blessed with 31 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. James became ill with alzheimers and Dorothy cared for him until his death. After James’ passing, Dorothy lived with family until she went into the Nursing Home where she passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones October 29, 2018.
