NORMAN, Anna Frances
July 23, 1919 – October 26, 2018
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Anna Frances Norman who passed away peacefully at the age of 99 at Stirling Heights Long Term Care Home in Cambridge.
Daughter of Albert Clinton Martin and Edma (Drake) Martin, she was predeceased by her husband Thomas Richard Norman in 1990 and daughter Margaret in 1998. Left to mourn her passing are her son Thomas Albert Norman and his wife Judith (Esch), daughter Nancy Anne Krause and her husband Irvin, daughter Katherine Nell Norman Dearden and her husband Bruce; grandchildren Carolyn Routledge (Bruce), Susan Norman (Dave Legere), Thomas David Norman (Janet), Patrick Maisonneuve, Linda Gillis (Aubrey), and Julie Pauli (Earon); and seven great grandchildren.
Not long after her birth in Oldham, South Dakota, Frances moved with her family to a farm near St. George, Ontario. At age 13, she met Tom Norman while skating on a nearby creek and in 1938, they married. Soon three children were born and Tom went off to war, leaving Frances to raise them throughout the wartime by herself. In 1957, the family was blessed with their fourth child, Katherine. Frances had a very artistic flair. She loved music, playing the piano, singing in the church choir, and playing in an English handbell choir. She also enjoyed poetry and painting, her many fine watercolours adorning the walls of her home. Frances had an incredible memory. Even late in life, she would surprise us by reciting poems and songs or sayings, often delivered with a twinkle in her eye. She took an interest in people and knew everyone in the family. If you forgot the name of a distant cousin, you could always ask “Aunt Franny.” She was a faithful and longtime member of Westside (formerly St. Andrew’s) Presbyterian Church.
Mom was our solid rock. She was always there to support, comfort and guide us as we walked along life’s path. She will be sorely missed.
Relatives and friends will be received at Westside Presbyterian Church, 130 Victoria Ave., Cambridge at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30th, with the funeral service at 2 p.m. and Internment at Glen Morris Cemetery to follow. Memorial donations may be made to Westside Presbyterian Church.
