OBITUARY
Walter Leslie MacDonald
3 March , 1932 – 13 September , 2018
Rest now our dear Dad.
Blessed are the times we had…
It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Walter Leslie MacDonald, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, at Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax, on September 13th, 2018. Leslie was born March 3, 1932, the son of Ernest and Susan (Leamon) MacDonald of Burnt Islands, NL. Leslie began working as fisherman at a very young age on draggers on the eastern coast of Newfoundland. Leslie met his wife of 63 years Emily Butler in Burnt Islands. When they married in 1955 the Gulf to settle in Louisbourg where they raised their family. Leslie went on to work on a freighter, sailing to many places such as Venezuela. He did off shore fishing including swordfishing (in which he was a precise striker), worked with Imperial Oil and lastly was a self employed inshore fisherman until his retirement in 1995. After retiring he enjoyed hunting, lake fishing, getting together with friends for a card game, and camping in the northern peninsula of NL and around Cape Breton Island. The joys of retirement were cut short when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1999. Leslie shared his love of his family with his love of the sea, knowing the waters around Louisbourg like the back of his hand. Leslie is survived by his devoted wife Emily; his children, Shane (Ruby) Lower Sackville, Gary (Ann Elizabeth) George’s River, Wendy (Steve) Campbellcroft, ON, brother, Percy (Meg) Halifax; his five grandchildren, Jacqueline, Elizabeth, Alycia, Eric, and Brett; his six great grandchildren, Daniel, Shane, Hope, Titus, Lydia, and Abegail. Predeceased by his parents, his sisters Sadie (Keeping), Elizabeth (Duckworth), and brother Robert. The family would like to thank Dr. Clarke and the staff of Parkstone, Halifax and Harbourstone, Sydney for all their care of Leslie. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will gather for prayers with Reverend Art Nash on Sunday, September 16th from 2-4pm, at Snow’s Funeral Home Chapel of Halifax.
Sail on, sail on…
Upon the waters oh so blue
Where the sun rises and the sun sets
Continue to comfort you
May we all meet again upon the rocky shores
Embrace and live on together
Where grieving will be no more
