Winifred Alice Kennedy
Winifred Alice Kennedy (nee Remnant) passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018, at the age of 88 years.
Winnie was born May 26, 1930 near Farnham, Surrey, England. She came to Canada in 1952 to visit her sister, intending to stay for one year. She met Jack Kennedy and married him in July 1953. They lived on his farm near Wembley.
Ten years passed before she saw England again. She took her two daughters and son to introduce them to their English relatives. Seven years after that, she went back to England with her four-year-old youngest son. She and her sister enjoyed several trips there since then.
In 1983, Jack and Winnie sold the farm and moved into Grande Prairie.
Winnie is survived by her sons Brian of Florida and Steve of Grande Prairie; daughter Sheila Gorgichuk of Grande Prairie; grandchildren: Darren Valin, Christopher Valin, James Gorgichuk, Jack Kennedy, Chrissy (Greg) Ford, Nicole (Josh) Acton, and Julie (Edwar) Bonilla of Florida; 8 great-grandchildren; sister (and best friend) Violet Dryer; sister in-law Vera Kennedy; as well as several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband Jack in January 2003, oldest daughter Linda Valin in June 1997; parents Fred and Florence Remnant; and brother Fred.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.).
Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke of Alberta (Unit 109, 10126 120 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 8H9) or to Alzheimer Society of Alberta and NWT (102, 9823 116 Ave., Grande Prairie, AB, T8V 4B4).
