OBITUARY
Haldis Ibbott
June 4, 1920 – June 9, 2018
Haldis (Hilda) Ibbott (nee Vike), 1920-2018
Hilda was born in Vikebukt Norway, June 14, 1920 to parents, Sigvald and Edvarda Vike, the eldest girl of 8 siblings. The family immigrated to Canada when she was 5. The Vikes settled in New Westminster where Hilda attended elementary and secondary school. Hilda entered the work force on graduation and later married Stan Abrams, a Vancouver musician. Sadly, Stan passed away at 33 and Hilda became a single parent and worked as a dispatcher for Bonny’s Taxi in Burnaby. Post war, Hilda met Bus (Walter) Ibbott and remarried. Hilda raised her children and worked part time at Birk’s Jewelers at Oakridge in Vancouver for many years. Hilda, Bus and the family attended church regularly at Alta Vista Baptist and Willingdon Mennonite in Burnaby. Hilda had a love for music and was self taught on the piano and a member of the Alta Vista choir. She had a love for the Big Band music of her youth and enjoyed singing along to the TV or radio. Hilda maintained a few close friendships over the years and enjoyed the White Spot as a favourite place to meet friends over a meal. She had an appreciation for nice furnishings and tasteful clothing and enjoyed sharing her home for visits by friends and family. In 2014, Hilda went into care at Al Hogg Pavilion in White Rock and more recently in Surrey where she passed away on June 9th surrounded by her family and the loving care of Elim Village staff. Hilda is predeceased by her husband Bus, and son, Donovan. She is survived by Brent (Guada), Doug (Lynda), Jane (Garry), grandchildren, Joel, Ashley, Hannah and great grandchildren, Juniper and Oak.
