Frank Watson June 25 1931 May 12 2018 (age 86)

Frank Watson was the character in the center of the Watson trio; charming and lovable, with a personality larger than life. He will always be celebrated by Susie, the apple of his eye, who didn’t fall far from the tree. He provided her with great opportunities and gifts for which she is forever grateful. In his wife and life partner, Sherron, he met his match as she kept him tethered, supported his unconventional career and Sunday game-day choices, and grounded the family with a loving home. She could always crack his poker face. Sadly, she passed in June 2017. Born in Delburne, Alberta to a large family, Frank chose a path less-traveled. He decided to be his own boss and live life his way. And live he did. From Calgary to the Mirage, Frank brightened every room. He measured life in terms of fun and where rules were optional, or need not apply. His quick wit, generosity, unbelievable stamina (stubbornness?), love of a good game and willingness to go “all in” are what made him the maverick he was. While he loved giving the best to his family and enjoying the finer things, Frank was a simple man with traditional values. He had left the farm, but the farm never left him. He was happiest being in clean country air, driving his truck with his beloved four-legged sidekicks in tow, attending rodeos and helping out friends with their horses or ranches where he could. One of his favorite pastimes was to have spirited conversations with Susie while he passed along his unsolicited, “free advice” to her; usually while laughing over tea and toast. His strategic thinking and passion for risk ran contradictory to her math skills…and his patience. That being said, he was pretty proud of her successful, annual Labor Day-Superbowl bets, even while chuckling at the meagre payout by his standards. Animals were a huge part of his world and he had a special way with horses and dogs, as they just naturally followed. His most recent “girls” – Lola & Gypsy – brought him a great amount of joy, and had him wrapped around their paws. Perhaps it was the cozy naps together, endless walks at Nose Hill Park, and constant treats from the table that helped secure the mutual love. They provided him with solace after long shifts getting their “dog food money” as he liked to call it. He was too memorable to ever be forgotten and is survived by Susie, Gypsy, and his sister, Rose Partridge of Delburne, Alberta. In lieu of a service or flowers, please honor Frank by making a donation to the animal charity of your choice or place a bet on your favorite team or horse. He would want you to win big!
