Obituary for
Douglas Snelling
Entered into rest at the Wedgewood Retirement Residence on Monday April 30, 2018. Douglas Charles Snelling at the age of 96 years. Beloved husband for nearly 75 years of Pamela and dear father of Brad Snelling and his wife Kerlyn. Fondly remembered and cherished by his grandchildren Brodie and Kallie Snelling. Dear brother of Margaret Cox (England). Douglas was predeceased by his parents Charles and Ada and two brothers Laurence and Leslie.
Douglas served as a Police Constable with the Bristol City Police and was a Sergeant and Pilot with the RAF during the Second World War. Having trained with the RAF in Gimli Manitoba, he gained an affection for Canada and, in 1952 immigrated to Montreal after working in England at the Dover Borough Engineer’s Office. While working for a Montreal firm he was sent to Prescott to lay out a north end subdivision. Douglas was intrigued by the area and decided to stay working for a few local construction companies. He founded D. C. Snelling Limited in 1958, he remained active in the business working with his son Brad into his late 70’s.
Douglas was instrumental in starting the Air Cadets in Prescott. He played football (soccer) for the Boys County team in England and enjoyed tennis and golf. He was a member of the Prescott Golf Club, Prescott Tennis Club and the Brockville Country Club. Douglas also enjoyed Ball Room Dancing with Pamela.
Private arrangements are entrusted with the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James Street East, Brockville. Cremation will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation; Palliative Care will be gratefully acknowledged.
