Margarette J Low, beloved wife of James Paton Low (previously deceased) passed peacefully in Lethbridge on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Margarette married her high school sweetheart April 21, 1943. Together they had six children; Sylvia (Robert) Taylor, Jolayne (Dennis) Remington, Barbara (Wayne) Holt, Eric (Pam) Low, William (Shannon) Low and Kevin (Diane) Low. She is survived by 23 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Margarette was born June 1, 1922 in Magrath, Alberta to David Hutchison and Afton Lovina Keeler. David and Afton had 6 children together, Gean (Grant) Wheeler now deceased, Joseph (Katherine) Keeler, Lovina (Lowell, deceased) Frodsham, Ruth Ann (Bruce, deceased) Johnson, Karl (Norma) Keeler both now deceased.
She attended Normal School in Calgary after High School graduation to become a school teacher and then proceeded to teach in rural schools in Alberta. She was able to help support her growing family when Jim served in the Navy during the war and then as he completed his law degree.
Margarette and Jim lived in Edmonton, Calgary, and then after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Las Vegas, Nevada Mission, moved to Magrath where they helped to care for Margarette’s aging mother.
While living in Edmonton, Margarette acquired her chocolate making skills and was known throughout Alberta for Margarette’s Hand Dipped Chocolate’s.
She was a devoted wife, homemaker, and was dedicated to serving in the church in many positions of responsibility, blessing the lives of many with her willing service.
Friends may meet family from 7:00pm – 8:00pm on Friday, April 20, 2018 at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 St. N., Lethbridge, AB and as well as prior to the service from 10:00am – 10:45am on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – FAIRMONT CHAPEL, 205 Fairmont Blvd. S., Lethbridge, AB. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am with Bishop Brett Hill, officiating. A graveside service will take place at approximately 2:30pm in the Magrath Pioneer Cemetery.
