Joan Williams 2018

Joan Williams
It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Kathleen Williams (nee Stevens), announces her passing on December 17, 2017, at the age of 68.
Born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Joan grew up on a farm, 14 miles southeast of Piapot. She loved life in rural Saskatchewan, especially riding horses with her friends, and heading to town to curl with her family.
From her earliest years, Joan assumed ‘adult responsibilities’; supporting her mother with housework, cooking, farm chores and the extra demands of caring for her disabled brothers, Dennis and Dick. Before Joan was 14, both of her brothers passed away, one within three years of the other.
Cancer took her mother just after Joan left home for secretarial training in Regina. Sadly, she lost her father 3 years later. Those early losses deepened her experience with the struggles of life, and no doubt contributed greatly to the caring and sensitive nature which characterized her life.
Joan moved to Calgary in 1971 with her two-year old baby girl, Shelley, and her husband Richard Herron, and his two children. Over their 20 years in Calgary, she worked as a rider on a school bus for special needs children, then for the last twelve years as a school aid for the Board of Education.
From Calgary, Joan joined George Williams moving to Sicamous to manage the Buena Vista Resort. With 46 units of summer residents, it was inevitable that the hard work also gained her many friends among owners and clients over their almost 25 years of marriage.
Joan enjoyed walking outdoors and looked forward to spending time with her family and friends. She was always thankful and grateful for the simple things in life. Joan faithfully and enthusiastically served God. She loved singing at her church and sharing her passion for her faith.
Joan was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, and friend with a genuine compassion and joy that would fill your heart the moment she smiled. She always saw the good in people, and in life, spreading love wherever she went. She was the heart of our family, our strength, and inspiration. She will be truly missed by all those who were lucky enough to have known her. Joan’s gentle presence and sweet smile has left the world a kinder, happier place, and though we are missing her deeply, we know Heaven has gained an Angel.
Joan will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband George Williams, daughter Shelley Krastel (Mark Peters), granddaughter Cynthia Krastel (George Popov), stepchildren Rob Williams (Stacey Paley), Tessa Seaward (Wayne), Nicole Williams, Theresa Herron (Ron Calder), Ted Herron (Monica), and many other relatives and friends. Joan was predeceased by her father and mother, Fred and Ivy Stevens; and her brothers, Dick and Dennis Stevens.
A graveside service will be held at the Memory Gardens Cemetery (126 2 Avenue NE, Swift Current, SK) on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 2:00 pm with a light lunch to follow at 2:30 pm at the Modern Family Restaurant (49 Central Avenue North, Swift Current, SK).
