Danny, age 62, passed away peacefully at his home in Victoria, BC on Monday, March 12, 2018. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario November 19, 1955 to William and Irene (Mackay) Nichols and was the youngest of four brothers.
Danny will be missed by his daughter, Ashlea (Ian Stone) Wilson; granddaughter Natalie; brothers, Bob (Kim), Ken (Julie) and Jan (Janet) Nichols and many nieces and nephews.
As a child, Digger Dan spent his days playing baseball and lacrosse, and he never missed an episode of The Three Stooges. Danny made Vancouver Island his home over 40 years ago. His career in Public Works with the City of Victoria began in 1982 and he retired in 2014. He was known around the job sites as Brother Radical. Danny loved baseball. Watching the Cleveland Indians play at Jacobs Field, visiting Cooperstown and trips to Seattle with his daughter were some of his fondest memories. He was excited to watch his granddaughter’s future tee ball games. Not a day went by where Danny didn’t talk to his friends and family on the phone. Keeping in touch with loved ones was a top priority for him. Those calls will be greatly missed by everyone. Danny was loyal, honest and straightforward. His strong character and outgoing personality made him the subject of many stories. He absence will be felt by all who knew him.
“Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good too”
