Obituary for MacDonald (Mac) Brown
Allan Macdonald Brown Sept. 30th, 1935 – March 11th, 2018 Born in Summerford to Arthur and Meta Brown. The oldest of six children, he was educated and graduated high school in Summerford. Shortly after finishing his education, Mac and his friend Neil Boyd left for work in Ontario. It was in Ontario that he married Bretta Marsh of Lockes Harbour, N.D. Bay. They had the first two of their four children while living in the Toronto area before returning to Newfoundland and settling in Glenwood. Two children were later born while living in Glenwood and Gander. While working at Bowaters in Glenwood, Mac decided to return to school where he received light and heavy duty mechanical training. He continued a career as a heavy equipment technician achieving his red seal certification. Although very work oriented he enjoyed an active social life, specifically following his love of music. Whether playing in bands singing his favorite Jim Reeves tunes with his lifelong friend Lew Harnett, aka Hank Snow, or performing gospel music in church – he loved his music and was an accomplished musician and singer. Later in life he was blessed with 3 grandchildren who he loved dearly. His wife of 58 years was constantly at his side. They were best friends, companions and confidantes. With their youngest son Mark, they travelled extensively around NL. All the while Mark was photographing and documenting every hydro line on the island!
A man of character and integrity, he will be sorely missed by his loving family and those fortunate enough to call him friend.
