Forever in our Hearts
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen Hunter. Helen Lucille Hunter was born on June 10, 1923 in Wiseton, SK and passed away at Calgary, AB on January 14, 2018.
Helen was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Edward, in 2007. She is survived by her twin sister Jean (Cliff) Pateman, her daughter Jean (Alan) Callaghan, daughter Beverley Hunter, son Jim (Annette) Hunter, ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Helen was also predeceased by two infant sons, daughter Margaret, son Ted (Chriss) and daughter Mary Lou (Blaine).
Helen and Ed lived in Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC, before moving back to Alberta. In 1969 they moved to Calgary, where she resided until her death.
Helen had a wide variety of jobs. She was a homemaker, worked in retail, served the post office and worked for many years with Dad in their insurance agency. Helen was a member of Eastern Star and served with the Mothers of Demolay. She was a member of a bowling league at Chinook Mall and she and Dad curled for many years and established many lasting friendships. Helen also volunteered at the Rocky View Hospital for over 25 years. She loved to garden and had vegetable and flower gardens every place she lived. She was an avid quilter and won a Third Prize one year at the Stampede for one of her beautiful quilts. Mom and Dad had a place at Prairie Lake, on Diefenbaker Lake, that she truly loved. Besides her home in Calgary, it was her favourite place to be. Helen had a gift for friendship and maintained some of her relationships for over 60 years. She was loved and will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. Helen loved her family and was never happier than when children or grandchildren were coming over, for a meal or to spend the weekend. Holidays and birthdays were always celebrated with joy and plenty of food.
A Celebration of Helen’s Life will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home, Prairie View Chapel (1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary, Alberta) on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society, Cancer Foundation or the Veterans Food Bank.
