Harry Chippin
1924-2017
It is with great sadness that the Chippin family announces
the passing of Harry Chippin, Saturday, Dec.30, 2017 after a brief
battle with cancer.
Harry was born in Fredericton, May 1, 1924 to the late Dora
and Simon Chippin.
Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather,
Harry is survived by his sister Betty Rosenzweig,
sisters–in-law Valerie Chippin, Alice Aronson, Ann Aronson
(Jack), son Gordon (Alice), daughter Marilyn Kaufman (Seymour) and
their four children, Alexis (Warren Lacusta), their children Paeyton
and Mercedes, Joanna Kaufman, Allison Kaufman, and Karen Striker
(Ron), son David (Gail) and their sons Sam, Dennis and Mitchell, son
Arthur (Janet) and their sons Alexander and Zachary and many nieces
and nephews.
Pre-deceased by his beloved wife Sheila, brothers Max, Joseph
and Bernard (Mike), sisters–in–law Lillian, Jenny,
brothers–in–law Murray Aronson, Bernard Aronson
and wife Pauline.
Harry came from humble beginnings, a self-made man with a
strong work ethic instilled in him by his father. He used to say that
if you had your health and five cents more than you needed, you were a
rich man. The Victory Meat Market, begun by his father Simon in 1939,
became an integral part of his life when later, he and his brother
Bernard (Mike), together, took over the business. He could almost
always be found at the Victory talking to the customers out front and
in later years out back at the desk in the office. He was proud to see
the family business span four generations.
A well-known figure in the Fredericton community, Harry liked
people and he loved life, an optimist who always viewed the glass as
being half full. He was easy going and good natured with a great sense
of humour. Married to his beloved wife Sheila for almost 68 years, he
enjoyed the simple things in life. He valued time spent with his
family, the Sunday afternoon drives, watching horse races at the Frex
and playing cards. He was able to bridge the age gap successfully with
his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was a whiz at
doing mental math and so, was held in high esteem by those needing
help to complete math homework. Finding success in both his personal
and business life, he was very generous in offering support to those
in need of a helping hand.
Harry was a strong supporter and a member in good standing of
the Sgoolai Israel Synagogue. In his earlier years he was a member of
the Young Men’s Hebrew Association Bowling Team. He was a
member of the Fredericton B’nai Brith Lodge. As well, he
served in the Canadian Armed Forces.
Funeral services will be held at J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel,
York St. on Monday, Jan. 1st, 2018 at 10:30 AM.
Interment to follow at the Sgoolai Israel Synagogue
Cemetery.
A special thank you to the care workers at Bayshore, the
staff at Windsor Ct. and the nurses from the extra-mural
program.
