In Loving Memory
William Thomas Phelan, Bill to all who knew him, passed away peacefully
on December 26, 2017, three weeks short of his 96th birthday. His beloved
wife of 70 years, Patricia Phelan (nee McClory) was with him to the end. Bill
is loved dearly by his six children Michael (Bev), Louise (Al) Carpenter,
Maureen (Dave) Barrey, and Patrick (Lorrie). He is pre-deceased by son
Dan and daughter Kathy. Bill is cherished by his eight grandchildren
Dennis Lambert, Brandon (Lindsey) Lambert, Christine (Tian) White, Erin
Lambert, Devin Carpenter, Jamie Carpenter, Mathew Phelan, Katie Phelan, and his
two great grandchildren Theodore Lambert and Madeline White.
Bill was born in 1922 in Toronto and could endlessly tell you the
history of the city he loved. He was a WWII veteran, a man proud to have served
his country. Remembrance Day always had a special place in his
heart. Life is for the living, so Bill immersed himself in a successful
business career and in volunteer work for the Catholic Church and a vast number
of other charities and community organizations. He was the Charter
President of Toronto East Rotary Club, and served on the boards of Providence
Villa, Variety Village, Good Shepherd Refuge, Riverdale Hospital, Fred Victor
Mission, and Seven Oaks. To the very end, he found ways to raise funds
for these organizations.
In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations to Variety
Village, the Rotary Foundation or the charity of your choice. The family
would also like to thank the caregiving team headed by Janet Marach and Louise
Andrade for the loving care and assistance they provided, helping Bill to live
independently.
Visitation will take place at McDougall & Brown Funeral Home, 2900
Kingston Rd. Scarborough on Thursday December 28, 2017 at 7:00 pm and Friday
December 29, 2017 3:00 – 5:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian
Burial will take place on Saturday December 30, 2017 at St. Paul’s Basilica, 83
Power St. at 10:00 am. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
