Warren Douglas Doug Brenton – 1937-2017

Warren Douglas «Doug» Brenton
1937-2017
It is with profound sadness that the family of Warren Douglas
«Doug» Brenton announces his sudden passing at the Saint
John Regional Hospital on November 8, 2017.
Doug was born in Charlottetown, PE, on September 20, 1937 to
Douglas and Reta (Stewart) Brenton. His lived his formative years and
most of his adult life in Saint John, NB, which he always considered
home.
Doug graduated from Saint John Vocational School in 1955. In
1958 he married his high school sweetheart, Joan (Raymond) Brenton,
and they remained inseparable (with the exception of hunting season)
for the next 59 years, through good times and bad, sickness and
health. Doug and Joan had three children: Joanne Regina (died in
infancy); Kristy Hardy (sons, Michael and Kristofer) of St. Margaret’s
Bay, NS; and Michael Brenton (wife Michelle, son Douglas and daughter
Brooke) of Hampton, NB.
Shortly after high school Doug began work with the CNR in
Moncton. He later moved to CP Telecommunications in Saint John,
Halifax, and finally Moncton. When the CP Tel office closed in Moncton
in 1968, he began work with Traders Group Limited in Moncton,
transferring to Saint John 1973 and rising to hold the position of
Mortgage Officer, Atlantic Zone, by the time Traders ceased New
Brunswick operations in 1979. During the 80’s Doug was the business
manager for Centennial Pontiac, from which he retired in 1990. Doug
made many friendships through his varied careers that lasted his
lifetime.
Until recent years Doug enjoyed golfing, fishing and
vegetable gardening from spring to fall. He was an avid hunter all his
life. Doug was a long time member and ardent supporter of the Adanac
Association, playing darts there on a weekly basis until the week
before his passing. Without doubt, though, working the
«Farm» in Kiersteadville, NB, always held a most special
place in his heart and soul.
Doug was predeceased by his parents, his step-father Vernon
Earle, his daughter Joanne, and his brother Stewart. In addition to
his wife, children and grandchildren, he is survived by his brother
Art (Fran) of Ottawa, ON, his cousin and long time friend John (Ivy)
Crowe of Truro, NS, and several nieces and nephews. He will be
lovingly remembered by all.
Arrangements are under the care of
Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111
Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Sunday,
November 12, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, with a Celebration of
Doug’s life and words of remembrance being offered at 3:00
pm. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery at a later date.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer
Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or any charity of the
donor’s choice.
