SMITH, Victoria Dorothy
Age 93, of Upper Burlington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2017, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, surrounded by her loving family. Born December 8, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Sanford) Hanes.
Victoria was a member of Newport Baptist Church and Women Missionary Society. In her younger years, she taught Sunday School, was active in 4-H and in many other groups. Victoria was a homemaker, and remained busy baking, working on the family farm and raising her children.
Victoria is survived by sons, Owen (Sue), Timmy (Nancy), Kevin (Carol); daughter, Sylvia Shanks; son-in-law, Ronald Hanes; daughter-in-law, Ellen Smith; brother, David (Brigitte); sisters, Elinor Malcom and Helen Rhyno; 11 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Carl; sons, Robert and Eddie-Wayne; daughter, Barbara Hanes; son-in-law, Ralph Shanks; brother, Owen; and sister, Georgina Morine.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS BON 2TO (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, January 17. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Januray 18, in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Rick Manuel officiating. Burial will take place in Hillview Cemetery, Scotch Village. Family flowers only by request, however, donations in memory of Victoria may be made to the Hillview Cemetery or Newport Baptist Church.
