Forever Missed & Always Remembered
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mom, Shirley Anne (Hicks) Downey age 79, of Amherst on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in the comfort of her own home, while surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Amherst, NS, Shirley was a daughter of the late Harold Sr. and Adeline (LeBlanc) Hicks.
Mom & Dad owned and operated several Taxi businesses within the community as well as Downey TV
Rentals.
Mom was a long-time member of the Amherst Golf & Country Club and she was a past President of the Ladies Golf Association.
Mom & Dad enjoyed many winters in Florida with their extended families.
In her spare time Mom spent many hours outside in her flower gardens at home and her second home in
Florida.
They both will be remembered for their kind generosity, especially during the Christmas season to families
in need.
Mom will be sadly missed by her special dear friend, Harry Haynes; three daughters, Sharon LeBlanc,
Sandra (Martin) Ayotte and Donna (Curtis) White all of Amherst; grandchildren Mark and Adam (Simone) Cormier, Michael (Kendra) LeBlanc and Kimberly (Jeff) White; great grandchildren Spencer, Evan, Kira, Ella, Lila, Dawson, and Cameron; step grandchildren, Travis (Emma) White, and Krista White; step great grandchildren, Jack and Clark; sister, Helen (Vaughn) Chapman; special niece, Debbie (Gilbert) Chiasson as well as several nieces and nephews; brother in laws, Carl (Doris) Downey and Kenneth Downey; sister in laws, Sally Downey, Jean
Hedditch and Joyce Ann Shestowsky.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Douglas in 2010; infant son, Dougie Stephen, infant daughter,
Sherry Kim; son in in laws, Ernie LeBlanc and Leo Ayotte; sister, Juanita Jehan; brothers, Laurie and Harold Jr.; sister in laws, Doris Hicks, Patricia Downey and Doris Chapman; brother in laws, Donnie Downey, Ray Hedditch and Tom Jehan.
Visitation for Shirley will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. with parish
prayers in the evening all at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst. (902-667-9906)
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 11 at 10 am from Holy Family Roman Catholic
Church, Amherst with Father Craig Christenson officiating. Mom will be laid to rest beside Dad in the Amherst Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Mom’s memory may be made to the LA Animal Shelter or charity of your choice.
