It is with very heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Shane Renard Nugent, 49, on Friday, February 3, 2017, in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Shane was born July 3, 1967, in Val Cartier, Quebec, but spent the majority of his life in Florence, Nova Scotia. He was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Nugent.
Shane graduated from Memorial High School with a trade in heavy-duty mechanics. His love of automotives and everything mechanical lead him to a successful career as a rig manager. He worked for 15 years in the Alberta oil sands, mainly with Calmena Energy Services. He quickly rose to success at Calmena, winning rig of the year two years in a row. He was very proud of his loyal crew and the accomplishments they were able to achieve. Although Shane spent most of his drilling career in Alberta, he also ventured overseas to Kenya, where he worked hard doing geothermal wells. He was no stranger to the east coast way of life as well; during his younger years he sailed all over doing deep-sea fishing to support his family. Shane always put his family first, even though providing for them meant he had to be away.
Some of Shane’s favorite pastimes were walking around Florence beach with his grandchildren, camping with family, four wheeling with his friends, and his evening drives with his “Sherryberry”.
Shane Nugent was a wonderful man who touched the hearts of every one he met; his kindness and generosity were like no other. We will all miss his sense of humor that could fill a room and put a smile on anyone’s face.
He is survived by his children, Shane, Shayna (Colten), Tyler (Gabby), and Ryan, his fiancé and love of his life Sherry Lawrence, mother of his children Laura Leah, brother Thomas, sisters Valerie (Pat), Debbie (Henny), and Thelma (Mike). His memory will be preserved in the hearts of the people he loved most, his grandchildren: Peyton, Lennon, Paysley, Brayden, Aubree, and Greyson.
Visitation for Shane Nugent will be held in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place at 4:00 in the funeral home.
