RONALD EDWARD LITTLEJOHN
It is with great sadness that Ron’s family announces his passing on April 17, 2017 following his battle with cancer.
Ron was predeceased by both his parents William (Spence) and Barbara Littlejohn. He is survived by his loving wife Linda, of 34 years, his three children, Brent (Clare), Bonnie (Jamie), and Catherine (Chris), his brother Lyle (Marg), and his sister Catherine (Bob). Ron has three grandchildren, Megan, Chloe, and Benjamin who will miss him terribly.
Ron was born in the small farming community of Arrow River, Manitoba on May 29, 1935. Even though he grew up on the farm, teaching very quickly became his calling. He took a job following Grade 11 teaching grades 1 through 9 in a one-room schoolhouse. After a few stumbles he made it work, and fell in love with the job. He moved to Winnipeg where he completed his university studies at the University of Manitoba and spent his career working as a teacher and principal with the St. James-Assiniboia School Division. In June of 1990 he retired from Heritage School.
Ron was a sports enthusiast. He grew up listening to Chicago Cubs games on the radio and this started a life-long love of baseball. In his early days in rural Manitoba he played the sport and was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. Throughout his life, Ron was an avid curler, curling well into his 70s. He loved the sport and spent many a game glued to his TV set. Even in his last few days, Ron could be found discussing the events of the curling game.
Ron enjoyed reading, travelling, going to the theatre, and spending lots of time with his family. He will be deeply missed.
A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Saturday, April 29 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to Cancer Care Manitoba.
