Robert Emmett Lavery PhD (1928-2015) Beloved husband to Audrey (nee Descary), brother to Patrick, Maureen, and the late Sr. Paula c.s.c., father to Eileen (Chris), Stephen, Maureen, Peggy (Victor), Deirdre (Shaun) and John (Valerie) and grandfather to Nick, Katy, Brendan, Sean, Josh, Rebecca, Emma, Ryan, Christina, Naomi, Dexter, Maya, Declan and Juno. Died peacefully at home on February 28th, 2015 He was a long time educator and advocate for teachers’ rights. From primary schools, to St. Joseph’s Teacher’s College to the Faculty of Education at McGill University, his career spanned the full spectrum of Quebec’s education system. As a representative of the Catholic Teachers Union in the 1960’s, he was integral in negotiating a contract which included ground breaking provisions for pay equity, job security, and maternity leave. He was a skilled administrator with the Montreal Catholic School Commission, the Lakeshore School Board, and Dawson College where he oversaw the move to the Motherhouse campus.
