Peter Harland Sirrs

SIRRS, Peter Harland (1937-2016)
A wonderful gentleman passed away peacefully in Oshawa on December 28. Peter was a caring and devoted husband to Kathy (predeceased). Dear father of Heather, David (Wendy), Douglas (Beverly), Katelyn and Meaghan. Peter will be remembered fondly by his 7 grandchildren Stephen (Nicole), Jesse, Andrew, Christopher (Ayla), Lauren, Emily and Adam as well as his 2 great grandchildren Mason and Jackson. He will also be greatly missed by his sister Louise and his nephews and nieces. Peter was born and raised in Ottawa. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and relocated with his young family to North Bay. After 10 years of service, Peter was honorably discharged and returned to school, earning a Masters of Criminology from Ottawa University. This led to a successful career with the Ontario Ministry of Corrections in North Bay, Cornwall, Ottawa and returning to North Bay in 1991. Peter was a long time Rotarian, primarily with the North Bay Rotary Club and at times very involved with OPSEU and the Minor Hockey Association. He was genuine, honest and straightforward, enjoyed music, reading, traveling and sports and cared deeply for his family. Family will receive friends at MARTYN FUNERAL HOME, 464 Wyld St, North Bay on Thursday January 5th, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. and at 1:30 p.m. there will be a time of sharing Peter’s Life stories. Refreshments will be served. If desired, contributions to the Cancer Society of Canada would be gratefully appreciated by the family. Online condolences at www.martynfh.com
