Pickard, (Turnbull) Morag Park – 87, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2017 at Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Born June 11, 1930, she was the only child of Walter and Sarah Turnbull of Musselburgh, Scotland. Morag attended Teacher’s College in Kircaldie, Scotland. In 1954, after graduation, she bravely answered an ad in the local paper and moved to Regina, Saskatchewan to teach school. She lived in Regina for two years, and then moved to St. Catherine’s, Ontario. In 1959, Morag applied for a job teaching at a Canadian Military Base in Hamar, Germany. There she met the love of her life, Major Kenneth Pickard. They were married in Musselburgh in December 1961 and travelled extensively through the military, living across the UK, Canada and the USA. Through the military they met their life long friends Ron & Lydia Glover. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1974, the family moved to Tatamagouche, where Morag resumed her teaching career. She taught for 16 more years between the two-room school house in Malagash Mines and Wallace Consolidated Elementary School. During those years, the family spent most of their time in the Pickard family home in Malagash, which she greatly enjoyed. Granny was devoted to her grandchildren and, after her retirement, was able to spend more time with them in Halifax and Ottawa, as well as in Malagash. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Ken, and her daughter, Katie, who died in 1973 at the age of 10. She is survived by her son, Bruce (Amy) and their children Katie, Robbie, and Michael of Ottawa; daughter, Suzanne, and her children Seth, Jacob (Carrie) and Alyson of Malagash; and son, Ian (Bernadine) and their children Campbell, Reilly, and Maggie of Halifax. The family would like to thank Maggie Jamieson, Morgan Langille, and Lesley Tucker whose devoted care allowed Morag to stay at home in her last years; as well as Dr. Rob Bush, and the staff at Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital for their kindness and loving care during her final days. Visitation will be at Coulter’s Funeral Home on Friday, November 24, 2017, from 6-8 pm and the funeral will take place at Sharon United Church on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 2 pm. Internment to follow at Lockerby Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital and Sharon United Church. Online condolences can be forwarded to the family by visiting the funeral home website at: www.mmcfunerals.com
