SEARS, Melba Lorraine – 86, Barrington Passage, quietly passed away November 3, 2017 in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, with adoring family and dear friends at her side. Born on The Hawk, Cape Sable Island, she was the daughter of the late Agatha (Newell) and the late Eugene Cunningham. She was involved in the work for her Lord as a faithful and loyal Christian at a young age. As a teenager she was an active member of the Baptist Church. After she married, she became an active member of the Advent Christian Church in West Head by singing in the choir, helping to run children’s activities, and was a member of the Ladies Mission group. Later on she moved to Bear Point and was an active member of the Advent Christian Church and she also became a member of the thimble club. She was pretty witty. It’s like she was waiting for you to say something so she could start singing one of her little ditties to you. A few years ago you would have found her spending her time in her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved potted plants, nourishing them with great pride. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and doing crafts. She was a wonderful cook. If she wasn’t at home, you could more than likely find her out walking alone or with a friend. She is survived by her son; Carson Messenger, Endako, BC; daughters, Emma (Craig) Nickerson, The Hawk, Gena Messenger (Steve Jackola), Surrey, BC, like a daughter Joyce DesChamp (Anthony Nickerson); step-son Robert Sears (Jodi Thomas); grandchildren, Bobbi Jo (Ward) Atkinson, Billy (Alison) Kendrick, Beth (David) Dolliver, Shawn Messenger (Natasha Rhodenizer) , Corey (Sarah) Nickerson, Curtis (Casey) Nickerson, Kirby Spence, Riley Spence, Keely, Isaac, Faith Ocheng; step-grandchildren, Nathan, Natalie, and Nevan Sears; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jared, Shelby, Cameron, Jayden, Ashton, Tanner, Dylan, Madison, Austin, and Alex; great-great-grandchildren, Lexis and Owen; step great-great-grandson Dixon; sister, Ruby Messenger, Barrington; brother, Robert (Joan) Cunningham, Lr Clark’s Harbour; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides from her parents she was predeceased by first husband Morton Messenge; second husband Charles (Edwin) Sears; son Russell; daughter Helena Kaufman; infant grandchildren Darla and Michelle Nickerson; and brothers, Milton, Gerald, Calvin (Kelly), Gardner, Russell Cunningham in infancy; sisters, June Nickerson and Edna Swim. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. There will be no visitation by request. There will be a memorial service held on Thursday, November 16, at 3 p.m. in the H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, with Pastor Alvin McComiskey officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ladies Mission at West Head Wesleyan Church or charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to: huskilson@ns.aliantzinc.ca or you may sign the guest book at www.huskilson.net
