It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Sawchuk of Edmonton. Surrounded by her loving family Mary passed away on April 22, 2017 at the age of 85 years. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Donna (Peter) Podloski, Loretta (Marvin) Tkachuk, Dale (Debbie) Sawchuk, and Blaine (Diane) Sawchuk; nine grandchildren, Jason Podloski, Tanya (Scott) Hryniw, James (Jenn) Podloski, Amanda (Eric) McNeely, Daniel (Amanda) Sawchuk, Dena (Dean) Marriott, Hayden Sawchuk, Madison Sawchuk and Sydney Sawchuk; seven great-grandchildren, Aveary, Liam, Hannah, Parker, Gabrielle, Everly, and Wylan; siblings, Olga (Joe) Klem, Nick (Madeline) Melnyk, Stella Sumka and Peter Melnyk; brother-in-law, Alex Shipka; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends whose lives she touched. Predeceased by her husband, Andrew; siblings, Kay Shipka, Anne Sawchuk, Mike, Andrew and John Melnyk; sister-in-law, Irene Melnyk; brothers-in-law, Terry Sumka and Thomas Sawchuk.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Philippe Lachance and the Royal Alexandra Hospital ICU Staff for their care and compassion shown to Mary and her family.
Funeral Rite Tuesday, May 2 at 10:00 a.m. at Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Elia, 11833 – 66 Street, Edmonton. Father Georg Podtepa officiating with interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. Elia Fund or to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.
