Maggie passed peacefully on November 10, 2017 following a lengthy and fierce battle with cancer. She was the beloved Mam and Mamgu to Rhiannon (Dirk), Naomi (Gary), Bryn, Cormac, and Griffin. She was also survived by her brother Gordon Dower and his family, and her many friends in particular Franklin Loehde. She was predeceased by her parents and beloved brother Dan.
Maggie was a proud Welsh woman born in Cardiff. She attended the University of Wales Cardiff earning a degree in Microbiology. Maggie was a lifelong Welsh learner, member of the St. David’s Welsh Society, and annual feature at the Heritage Festival. She loved music and regularly attended the Edmonton Opera and Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. She was a tireless volunteer with the Edmonton Opera Chorus, and the St. David’s Society. Maggie loved doing Pet Therapy with her trusty sidekick Bryn at the Stollery Children’s and Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospitals, and CASA.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Sidhu and the staff at Norwood Palliative Care for their unstinting care of Maggie. She reflected that it was some of the happiest time of her life. We would also like to thank Drs. Butts, Fairchild, and Sawyer at the Cross Cancer Institute for their compassion for and care of Maggie.
A celebration of Maggie’s life will occur on December 2, 2017 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the Nugent Law Office at 2, 10020 – 82 Avenue Edmonton.
