Louis Pletz June 1, 1925 – August 5, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louis Ernest Pletz on August 5, 2015 with his family by his side. Lou had recently celebrated his 90th birthday, a milestone he was proud to reach. Lou was born on June 1, 1925 in Lebret, Sask. He grew up on the family farm with his parents, Robert and Thecle, and his four siblings, Celeste, Colette, Gilbert and Rita. Lou enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WW2 and served in Europe as a motorcycle dispatch rider. After returning to Canada he met the love of his life, Doris Brooker and they married in Victoria, BC on February 5, 1949. Lou proudly served for 33 years as a Victoria City Police officer, retiring with many commendations. Lou was well known and respected throughout the community. He was a lifetime member of the South Vancouver Island Rangers and served terms as the Head Ranger. An avid hunter and fisherman, he taught his skills to his children and grandchildren. He was an active member of many organisations as well as a 50 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Lou was predeceased by his eldest son Ronald in 2008. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Doris, his children Virginia McIntyre, Joan, Daniel, Karen Musial (Henry) and Mary Ann (Gerhard). He was very proud of his ten grandchildren Tara (Niall), Brandon (Maryanna), Shawna, Eric, Joe, Evan (Jenna), Adam, Tyler, Jeena and Hannah. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 12th at 2:00 PM at Sands Funeral Chapel 1803 Quadra Street. The family is grateful for the special care and attention Dad received during his time at Broadmead Lodge. In lieu of flowers please consider donations supporting our veterans at The Lodge at Broadmead at www.broadmeadcare.com.
