Kenneth Ken Joseph Haslett 19322017

Kenneth «Ken» Joseph Haslett
1932-2017
The death of Kenneth Haslett of Saint John, cherished husband
of Trudi (Barrett) Haslett, occurred on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at
the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on June 7, 1932 on
Millidge Avenue, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mabel (Jenkins)
Haslett.
Ken was a veteran of the Korean War and was extremely proud
of his two tours of duty on the Nootka and Huron. Prior to
his retirement, he had a 35 year career with the Saint John Fire
Department where he retired in 1997 as the District Chief.
Ken especially treasured the times spent with his grandchildren,
great-grandchild, great-nieces and great-nephews. His
memories of summers spent in Whitehead at the Haslett homestead were
always held close to his heart and he will forever be remembered as a
devoted and loving family man.
Ken was a member of the RCL Branch #69, volunteered for 35
years with Meals-on-Wheels, dedicated numerous hours with the
Kennebecasis Valley Obedience Club and spent many hours tracking
through fields and throwing ducks while training his Labs for
retrieving. He was the founding member of the Millidgeville
Over 65 Walk About Association (where many wonderful friendships were
made) and was a loyal member of the Aquatic Centre. His
dedication to his community and others earned him the Queens Golden
Jubilee Medal, one of his greatest achievements. Ken always
enjoyed the outdoors, loved boating and as his brother Ernie had often
said «Ken found every rock and log in the river».
He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his loving wife of 37 years, Trudi, Ken is
also survived by his children, Kimberley Losier (the late Dan) of
Rothesay and Kenneth Haslett Jr. (Gerry) of Vancouver, BC; treasured
grandchildren, Lindsay Wilson and Jeffrey Wilson both of Saint John
and Jillian Smith (Scott) of Rothesay and her mother, Marion McNamee
of Bayswater; precious great-grandchild, Dacian Wilson; several nieces
and nephews; as well as his Black Lab, Rosi. Besides his
parents, he was also predeceased by his brothers, Ernest, Carl and
Doug Haslett and sister, Dorothy Silliphant. Ken was the
last surviving member of his immediate family.
