John Gary Slaunwhite
John Gary “Bock” Slaunwhite of White’s Lake, NS passed away peacefully at Oceanview Nursing Home at the age of 73, in Eastern Passage, on November 26, 2017 where he had been a resident since April, 2016 after complications following an unfortunate accident. -He was born in Terence Bay March 27, 1944, to the late Leo and Etta (Jollimore) Slaunwhite. He is survived by his wife Florence (Bennett), two children, Gary (Carol Harrie) of Shad Bay and grandchild Abigail; Julie Kozma of Airdrie, Alberta, and two grandchildren, Tyler and Shawn; Sisters, Beverly Kendall of Terence Bay, Shirley Collins of London, Ont.; Brothers, Wayne (Brenda) of Terence Bay and Louis (Darlene) of Hatchet Lake; sister-in-law Violet (Williams) of White’s Lake and many nieces and nephews.
He is Predeceased by his parents and brother Merle husband of Violet of White’s Lake and 2 infant siblings.
Gary was a jack-of-all trades. He was well known as a great mechanic in his prime, following this he worked at excavation, driving trucks and operating heavy machinery. He worked at Northland Fisheries until it closed down and he went fishing for himself. He worked with his hands all his life, if it wasn’t fixing old cars, he was building his own house. He made a replica of his fishing boat as if he was actually building a life size Cape Island boat. He also made sure the birds and squirrels were fed as they gathered in our back yard. He was a good man and was liked by all who knew him. He will be missed and in our hearts and thoughts forever.
There will be no visitation or funeral services by request of deceased, cremation has taken place.
