Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Juravinski Hospital on Thursday, July 20, 2017 in his 87th year. Beloved and dedicated husband of Mary, celebrating 65 years of marriage this year. Loved father of Karen Scattolon (Frank), Nancy Harding (Michael) and Diane Hill. Cherished grandfather of Tina Colamartini (Nick), Dr. Sarah Scattolon (Kevin Raposo), Mark Scattolon (Lauren Pellicciotta); Jordan Harding, Allison Harding (Igor Lukac); Matthew Hill (Andrea), Alex Hill and their father Gary Hill. Proud great-grandfather of Nico, Julian and Tessa Colamartini. Dear brother of Marie Batulis (the late Bill) and Frank (Sandi). Brother-in-law of Theresa Wirkowski (the late Nobby) and Louisa Carpani (the late Joe). Predeceased by his brother Ray (survived by Josie), brother-in-law Fred Lombardo (survived by Florence (Ernie)) and his parents Fiorindo and Pia Caravaggio. Missed also by many nieces and nephews. Many know John and Mary as dedicated, long-time parishioners of St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church where John was a proud usher and Mary a member of the choir. Above all else, John was a caring, devoted and proud family man. John is remembered for his kindness, loving nature and optimistic personality. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Special thanks to the wonderful staff of the Juravinski Hospital Unit 3C for their care and compassion to John and his family. Thanks also to Dr. Ralph Profetto for his years of genuine care. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. with Vigil Prayers 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, 304 Highway #8, Stoney Creek on Monday July 24, 2017 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to a charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
