JAMES ROBERT BROSH
April 18, 1942 – February 20, 2017
It is with heavy heart we say farewell to Jim after his 22 year ongoing battle with cancer. Jim as born April 18, 1942 to Carroll and Lois Brosh in Calgary. His life of service began at 17 years old when he joined the Royal Canadian Navy serving on the H.M.C.S. Bonaventure. Jim enjoyed a notable 33 year career with the Calgary Fire Department and retired as a District Fire Chief in 1995. Jim and his family moved from Calgary to Didsbury in 1975 and retired to Sundre in 1998. He was a volunteer with the Didsbury Fire Department and sat on various boards including Firefighters Credit Union, Royal Canadian Legion, Lions Club, Sundre Town Council and Alberta Transportation Safety Board. He was also instrumental in helping the Vietnamese Community preserve their freedom flag as he believed in justice and fairness to all. Many days were spent helping family and friends with construction projects including houses, barns, decks, arenas and the list goes on. In his spare time he enjoyed landscaping, camping, quading in the west country, fishing, travelling, golfing and attending his grandchildren’s activities. Jim was also an avid crib player, reader and considered himself a budding author. His life motto was “A job worth doing is worth doing it right the first time!” and Jim did just that!! Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Carol; daughters Tracey Brosh, Kelly (Wes) Brown; grandchildren Tyson Brown and Shelby, Zane, Alia, Maclean and their father Rob Simmonds; sisters Carol (Lea) Florendine, Coleen Hutton as well as numerous extended family and friends. Many heartfelt thanks to Dr. Landsbergen and all the caring staff of the Sundre Hospital and Tom Baker Cancer Centre. Memorial services will be held on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Evangelical Missionary Church, Didsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Centre or S.T.A.R.S. Air Ambulance.
