Harry James Duane Holmes, known to all who loved him as “Duane”, was born October 7, 1940 in Carlea, Saskatchewan to Mildred Rebecca Holmes (nee Wall) and Harry Franklin Holmes. He was the eldest of 6 children. In 1954 he moved with his parents, two sisters and one brother to Carrot River where the family took up farming. Two more sisters were later born there. He moved to Moose Jaw when he was in his late twenties, and resided there until 1986 when his youngest sister Grace went to work in a group home in Porcupine Plains, Sask. He was transferred to be close to his family. In 1989 he moved to the group home system in Prince Albert. He worked at the Kinsmen Workshop until he retired. After breaking his leg for the second time, he moved to the Herb Bassett Home where he resided until his death. Duane enjoyed music (country to be exact), talking to people, his harmonica and animals. He loved to visit with his family and friends and enjoyed his nieces and nephews, keeping track of what everyone was doing and where they were. He loved to go shopping and prided himself on his large collection of Halls and toothpaste — you could never pass up a sale, as you might run out. Duane will be missed by his surviving brother Ken (Donna) Holmes, his sister Lorraine (John) Babiak, his sister Ruth (Victor) Timm, his sister Grace Holmes; his brother-in-law Ernie Holek; numerous nephews and nieces; and by all the friends his life touched. He was predeceased by his parents Mildred Rebecca Holmes (nee Wall) and Harry Franklin Holmes; his sister Janet Holuk; infant sister; and nephew Paul Holuk. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Herb Bassett Chapel, 1200 – 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
