BENOIT, GERVIS LAWRENCE
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gervis Benoit, 87, on November 11, 2017 in Valley View Villa, Stellarton, NS. Born in Cape St. George, NL, he was the son of the late Julia (Chaisson) and William Benoit.
He is survived by his loving wife Kaye (Rehberg) Benoit, Valley View Villa; his son Wayne (Rita), Burlington, Ont.; granddaughter Holly (David); great-grandchildren Tristan and Eden, all of Ontario. He is also survived by brothers James (Julia), Mike (Jean) of Stephenville, NL; sisters Merelda (Jimmy), Kathleen (Joe), Salt Springs, NS, as well as Beatrice (George) and Bertina (Teddy) of Cape St. George, NL, along with many nieces and nephews. His extended family include step children David Rehberg (Helen), Dundee; Wayne Rehberg (Linda) Dartmouth, Brenda Swinehammer (Roland) of Dartmouth and Gary Rehberg (Claire), Montreal; also his 7 step-grandchildren who thought the world of him.
Gervis worked for 45 years in forestry cutting pulp. He was fierce with a chain saw and was a dependable and dedicated worker. He was a respected, quiet and gentle man who was described by one of his former doctors as «one of the finest gentlemen I have ever met.»
Our sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Valley View Villa for the wonderful care provided and the compassion they showed Gervis, as well as the great support offered to the family.
Visitation will be Friday, November 17 from 7-9 pm at L’Ardoise Funeral Home. Funeral mass with be Saturday, November 18 at 10:30 am at Holy Guardian Angel Church in L’Ardoise. Burial following in the parish cemetery. The funeral is under the direction of Green’s Funeral Home, Port Hawksbury, NS.
